City schools test cooling upgrades before summer heat.
A coastal city is launching a pilot program across twelve public schools to reduce classroom heat during warmer months. Officials said the program will focus on older buildings that lack modern ventilation and often become uncomfortable before summer break.
The project will test reflective roof coatings, added shade trees, improved air circulation, and temperature sensors in classrooms. The city plans to compare energy use, indoor temperatures, and student comfort before expanding the upgrades district-wide.
School leaders said the goal is to keep students focused while avoiding expensive renovations that may not be necessary for every campus.
